the foodie

the foodieOriginally from the south, I live in New England where lobster rolls are the new barbecue sandwich. As a graphic designer and photographer, I enjoy communicating concepts through imagery, but many times the process of transforming thoughts into words and sharing those experiences can be therapeutic.

Being the wife of a type 1 diabetic, guardian of my aging mother, and a freelancer dealing with the ups and downs of working for myself, I find that taking care of me can get back-burnered. I enjoy cooking, gardening, enjoying familiar places, and exploring new ones with my little French bulldog in tow.

As for food, a big helping of love goes into preparing a comforting dish or growing that beautiful heirloom tomato. I have fond memories of watching my father whip up southern comfort food in his heavily blackened cast-iron pan or strolling through his yard pointing out this flower or that shrub. Dad is gone, but he lives through me in the kitchen, in the garden, and as a handywoman. Yes I’m miss fix it—good with tools.

In the kitchen, Betty, my little sous chef, is right at my feet while I’m cooking—patiently watching and waiting for a morsel of food to land at her feet, and it usually does. When I’m practically sterilizing the dishes before they go into the dishwasher, you’ll find her sitting between my feet.

Check in often. Here you’ll find a growing collection of itineraries—dog-friendly shops, restaurants, accommodations, and activities in New England (and beyond) that we stumble upon, as well as good food finds, and other musings from the garden and the kitchen.

A little shop selling gourmet jams and sauces in a small beach town, a small crabshack that serves huge lobster rolls, a downtown restaurant with a dog-friendly patio, picking heirloom tomatoes in the garden while Betty picks crabgrass, experimenting in the kitchen with a new recipe on an old favorite—these are a few of my favorite things…
